Connected Couples ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Connected mobile application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our app.

Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect:

• Account information: Your email address, first name, and profile photo (if provided).
• Answers and content: Your responses to daily questions, partner notes, bucket list items, quiz answers, emotion check-ins, weekly check-in reflections, and relationship assessments.
• Pairing data: Your unique partner code and partner link information.
• Device information: Push notification tokens for delivering notifications (see Push Notifications section below).
• Location data: When using the Date Night feature, approximate location data is used to find nearby restaurants and venues (see Google Places API section below).

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the Connected app experience
• To link your account with your partner
• To generate AI-powered relationship insights based on your answers
• To calculate your connection score and track relationship progress
• To send daily question reminders and partner activity notifications
• To suggest nearby date night venues and activities based on your location
• To track mood patterns through emotion check-ins

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS). All data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure enclave (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).

We implement Row Level Security (RLS) policies to ensure you can only access your own data and your partner's shared data.

AI-Powered Features (Anthropic Claude)

Connected uses Anthropic's Claude AI to generate personalized relationship insights based on your answers and interactions. When you use AI-powered features:

• Your relevant answers and content are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing.
• Anthropic does not use your data to train their models. Data sent to the API is processed and not retained beyond the request lifecycle, in accordance with Anthropic's data usage policies.
• All user inputs are sanitized before being sent to the AI to protect against prompt injection and ensure data integrity.
• AI-generated insights are suggestions and observations, not professional relationship or medical advice.

Google Places API (Date Night Feature)

The Date Night feature uses the Google Places API to find nearby restaurants, activities, and venues. Here is how we handle this data:

• Location access: The app requests your location permission only when you use the Date Night feature. We do not track your location in the background.
• Data sent to Google: Your approximate location coordinates are sent to Google's Places API to retrieve nearby venue information.
• Local caching: Venue data (names, ratings, photos, addresses) is cached locally on your device to reduce API calls and improve performance. This cached data is not uploaded to our servers.
• Photo references: Google Places photo references are stored using a reference prefix pattern and are never stored as raw API URLs containing keys.
• You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device's Settings app.

Push Notifications (Expo Push Notifications)

Connected uses Expo Push Notifications to deliver timely reminders and partner activity updates. Here is how we handle notification data:

• Push tokens: When you enable notifications, a push notification token is generated by your device and stored in our database, linked to your user account.
• Token usage: Push tokens are used solely to deliver notifications such as daily question reminders, partner answer reveals, and activity updates.
• Clearing tokens: You can disable notifications at any time through the app's settings or your device's notification settings. When you disable notifications or delete your account, your push token is removed from our systems.
• Third-party processing: Push tokens are processed through Expo's push notification service and Apple's Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver notifications to your device.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Your answers and content are shared only with your linked partner as part of the core app functionality. We may use anonymized, aggregated data to improve the app.

Third-party services we use:

• Supabase: Database and authentication
• Anthropic (Claude): Generating relationship insights (your data is sent to Anthropic's API for processing but is not used to train their models)
• Google Places API: Nearby venue data for the Date Night feature
• RevenueCat: Subscription management
• Expo: Push notification delivery
• Sentry: Error tracking and crash reporting
• Apple / Google: For social sign-in authentication
• Mixpanel: Analytics to understand app usage and improve the experience. Tracks anonymized events such as screen views and feature usage. Your name and email are associated with your analytics profile for personalization purposes.
• MailerLite: Email marketing and communications. If you opt in to promotional notifications, your email address is shared with MailerLite to deliver product updates and relationship tips. You can unsubscribe at any time through the app's notification settings.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Revoke location permissions and disable push notifications at any time

Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, the following occurs within 30 days:

• All personal data, content, answers, check-ins, and journal entries are permanently deleted.
• Partner links are severed and the partner's profile is updated accordingly.
• Push notification tokens and cached preferences are removed.
• Your authentication record is permanently deleted.

Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot be used to identify you (such as overall usage statistics and aggregate feature metrics) may be retained indefinitely for app improvement purposes.

International Data Transfers

Connected's infrastructure is hosted in the United States through Supabase. AI processing is performed by Anthropic, also based in the United States. If you access Connected from outside the United States, your data will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, we rely on the following legal bases for transfer:

• Your explicit consent provided at registration.
• The necessity of the transfer for the performance of the contract between you and Connected.
• Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable with our sub-processors.

Children's Privacy

Connected is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
